Chelsea Maintain Top Spot

Ahead of yet another International break so early in this season, Chelsea remain top of the table in a weekend which saw a single goal victory in five games while six sides secured a clean sheet.

Saturday's lunchtime kick-off saw table topper Chelsea face Liverpool with the hosts taking an early lead in the ninth minute through Emre Can's first goal for the club but Chelsea replied just five minutes later with a strike from Gary Cahill which was awarded via goal-line technology. However, Chelsea completed the comeback in the second half when Diego Costa sealed the win in the 67th minute to extend the Blues unbeaten start to the season.

Burnley ended their 10 game wait for a first win of the season as they claimed a slim 1-0 victory at home to Hull with Ashley Barnes striking the crucial winning goal in the 50th minute to close the gap on the sides above in the bottom three.

Manchester United continued their ascent up the table with a 1-0 win at home to Crystal Palace with the Eagles falling behind in the 67th minute to a strike from Juan Mata which was enough to secure all three points and move the hosts to just outside the top four.

Southampton continued their superb start to the season by maintaining second place with a 2-0 win at home to Leicester City with Shane Long securing the points with a brace in the 75th and 80th minute to leave the Foxes without a win since their triumph over Manchester United.

West Ham and Aston Villa shared the points in a 0-0 draw between two sides at opposite ends of the table with Villa just outside the bottom three and West Ham just outside the top three. Manchester City salvaged a late 2-2 draw away to QPR which leaves them eight points off the top, Charlie Austin put the hosts in front in the 21st minute after two disallowed goals before Sergio Aguero levelled in the 32nd minute. City were unfortunate to fall behind again in the 76th minute when Martin Demichelis hit into this own net but his Argentine team mate Sergio Aguero secured a draw for City with an 83rd minute equaliser.

Sunday began with Sunderland and Everton sharing the points in a 1-1 draw which saw the hosts take a 67th minute lead through Seb Larsson but their hopes of moving into the top half were dented in the 76th minute when Leighton Baines converted from the penalty spot to secure a point.

Tottenham's run of poor Sunday performances continued as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Stoke with the Potters taking an early lead through Bojan Krkic in the sixth minute, Jon Walters doubled the lead in the 33rd minute before Nacer Chadli gave Spurs hope with a strike in the 77th minute. However, the hopes was dented in the 85th minute with the dismissal of Kyle Naughton and Stoke held on for the win.

Super Sunday began with Newcastle making it five consecutive wins as they secured a 2-0 win away to West Brom with Ayoze Perez continuing his recent scoring spree with the opening goal in the 45th minute. Fabricio Coloccini doubled the lead with a strike in the 62nd minute which was enough to send the travelling Geordies home in a happy mood.

Part two saw Swansea stage a superb comeback from 1-0 down to secure a 2-1 win at home to Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez gave the Gunners a 63rd minute lead before Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised in the 75th minute. Bafetimbi Gomis gave the Swans the lead just three minutes later with his effort enough to secure all three points.
