Saturday lunchtime saw Arsenal travel to face West Brom with the Gunners eager to close up on the top four and they did just that with a narrow 1-0 win over a Baggies side who are on the fringes of the bottom three. Danny Welbeck struck the winning goal in the 60th minute to move Arsenal up to sixth.

Liverpool left it late to secure a much needed win and end a run of three successive defeats as they played host to Stoke, Glen Johnson latched onto a rebounded effort from Rickie Lambert to head past a helpless Asmir Begovic in the 85th minute to claim a 1-0 win that saw the Reds leapfrog the Potters into 11th.

Chelsea missed the chance to extend their lead at the top as they were held to a goalless draw away to a Sunderland side who became the first team this season to prevent the Blues from scoring in the league and moved three points clear of the bottom three as a result.

Super Sunday began with the meeting of second placed Southampton and third placed Manchester City but it was the defending champions who ended the day in second after a stunning 3-0 victory which saw the Saints fall behind to a 51st minute opener from Yaya Toure.
