In what was possibly the most exciting weekend of the season so far, Southampton stole the headlines with an eight goal haul with the schedule as a whole featuring six crucial strikes in the final minutes as part of a total of 40 goals.
Saturday's lunchtime kick off saw Tottenham travel to face Manchester City looking to avenge last season's 6-0 defeat at the Etihad but they suffered an early blow as Sergio Aguero put the hosts ahead in the 13th minute. The visitors levelled instantly through Christian Eriksen before Aguero regained the lead with a 20th minute penalty before blowing the chance to complete his hat-trick after Hugo Lloris saved the Argentine's spot kick.
Tottenham also wasted a penalty as Joe Hart saved from Roberto Soldado in the 65th minute but paid the price when Fazio was dismissed just two minutes later and Sergio Aguero completed his hat-trick from the spot for 3-1. The Argentine completed a near perfect performance with his fourth strike in the 75th minute to secure a comfortable 4-1 win over the Spurs.
Arsenal looked to improve on a mixed start to the season when they hosted Hull and the Gunners made a good opening with Alexis Sanchez putting them in front in the 13th minute, Hull responded well and drew level just four minutes later through Mo Diame. Hull went ahead just three minutes into the second half via a strike from Abel Hernandez and with the final minutes ticking down they looked to be on for a surprise win before Danny Welbeck salvaged a draw for the hosts in injury time.
West Ham continued their good start to the season with a comfortable 3-1 win away to Burnley who due to other results are the only team without a win this season and the Clarets suffered a double blow early in the second half. Diafra Sakho extended his scoring streak with the opener in the 49th minute before Enner Valencia doubled the lead in the 54th minute. George Boyd reduced the deficit for the hosts on the hour mark but Carlton Cole confirmed the win for the Hammers with a strike in the 70th minute for 3-1.
Chelsea regained their five point lead at the top with a London derby win away to Crystal Palace with the Blues taking a sixth minute lead after Oscar's superb free-kick, Both sides went into the interval with 10 men after Cesar Azplicueta and Damien Delaney were dismissed in the 40th and 43rd minutes.
Cesc Fabregas extended the lead for the visitors in the 51st minute and the win looked to be comfortable in the final minutes until Fraizer Campbell set up a tense finish with a 90th minute strike but Chelsea held on to claim the win.
Everton secured only their second win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Aston Villa with Phil Jagielka putting the Toffees ahead in the 18th minute, Romelu Lukaku doubled the just three minutes into the second half before the win was wrapped up in the 76th minute after a strike from Seamus Coleman.
After an hour's delay due to an unsafe big screen, Newcastle secured their first win of the season at the eighth attempt as they claimed a 1-0 win over Leicester with the crucial strike coming in the 71st minute from Gabriel Obertan.
The highlight of the 3pm kick-offs came at St Mary's as Southampton demolished Sunderland with a crushing 8-0 victory that put them just one goal away from equalling the all time record of 9-0 set back in March 1995 when Manchester United defeated Ipswich Town.

The Saints were given a superb start as Sebastian Vergini scored a contender for goal of the season as he volleyed into his own net from 18 yards in the 12th minute, Graziano Pelle made it 2-0 just six minutes later before Jack Cork sent the hosts into the interval 3-0 ahead courtesy of a strike in the 37th minute. Liam Bridcutt was unfortunate to score an own goal in the 63rd minute for 4-0 before Graziano Pelle added his second and Southampton's fifth in the 69th minute.
A miserable afternoon turned into humiliation as the Saints struck three times in the space of eight minutes to complete an 8-0 rout with Dusan Tadic striking in the 78th minute to add to his haul of assists, Victor Wanyama scoring just after the restart and Sadio Mané completing the rout in the 86th minute.

Part two of Super Sunday saw Stoke claim a 2-1 win at home to Swansea despite having to come from behind after the Swans took a 34th minute lead with Wilfried Bony's slotting in a penalty but the Potters levelled with a penalty of their own as Charlie Adam struck in the 43rd minute. Both sides looked set to share the points until Jon Walters sealed the win for the hosts with a 76th minute strike.
