Europa League Matchday Two Summary

The second round of games in the Europa League took place last night and saw a lot of tight games with 14 games ending in either a draw of single goal victory.

A
FC Zurich and Borussia Moenchengladbach each earned a point after their 1-1 draw which saw both goals come in the first half as Zurich took the lead with a 25th minute strike from Etoundi before the Germans equalised just two minutes later through Nordveit to ensure a share of the points. Villarreal stormed to a 4-0 win over Apollon with Balaguero opening the scoring inside eight minutes before Espinosa doubled the hosts lead in the 44th minute. Espinosa struck for a second time in the 51st minute to put the La Liga side in control before Balaguero completed the rout with his second strike in the 82nd minute.

Club Brugge secured their first win of the campaign with a 3-0 win away to HJK Helsinki with the Belgians taking a fortunate lead as Heikkinen hit into his own net in the 18th minute. De Sutter doubled the lead in the 70th minute before the win was sealed 12 minutes from the end by a De Bock strike. Torino also claimed their first win of the campaign with a narrow 1-0 win at home to FC Copenghagen who were cursing their luck after conceding a penalty in the final minute which Fabio Quagliarella converted successfully to secure the win.

Asteras secured their first win of the campaign with a 2-0 win at home to Partizan Belgrade who fell to a second consecutive defeat and went behind after only 22 minutes to a Usero strike. Asteras doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when Parra struck and it proved to be enough to confirm all three points. 

Tottenham are still without a win from their two games after they let a 1-0 lead slip at home to Besiktas who secured a last -gasp point in a 1-1 draw. Harry Kane put the hosts ahead after 27 minutes with a strike that looked to be enough to secure all three points but Spurs will be cursing their luck after they conceded an 89th minute penalty which was converted by former Chelsea striker Demba Ba who salvaged a draw for the Turks.

Astra are without a point after two games after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Red Bull Salzburg who had to come from behind after Seto put the hosts in front in the 15th minute but the Austrians bounced back with a leveller from Kampl in the 35th minute. The comeback was completed in the 42nd minute as Soriano made it 2-1 with a strike that proved to be enough to secure all three points. Celtic also have their first win of the campaign after a 1-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb with the crucial strike coming after just six minutes from Kris Commons.

Dinamo Moscow made it two wins in a row with a narrow 1-0 win over PSV with a last-gasp winner from Yuri Zhirkov while Estoril got of the mark with a 2-0 win over Panathinaikos with Pinheiro putting the hosts in front in the 52nd minute.

The win was sealed in the 66th minute with a strike from Amado which left the Greek side without a point after their first two games.

Inter Milan secured a second consecutive win witn a 2-0 win over FC Qarabag with the Italians taking the lead in the 18th minute with a strike from D'Ambrosio. Qarabag looked to draw level and keep their unbeaten start to the campaign intact but fell further behind when Icardi struck in the 85th minute to confirm all three points for the hosts. St Etienne remain unbeaten after sharing the points in a 0-0 draw with Dnipro who claimed their first point as a result of the stalemate.

Feyernoord claimed the first win of the campaign with a 2-1 win at home to Standard Liege with the hosts taking a 47th minute lead after a strike from Van Beek.

The Belgians levelled in the 65th minute with an equaliser from Ramos and looked to be on for a draw until Manu secured all three points for the Dutch side in the 84th minute.

Everton moved to the top of the group after salvaging a 1-1 draw away to Krasnodar who took a 43rd minute lead with a strike from Ferreira but missed out on a first win after conceding an equaliser in the 82nd minute from Samuel Eto'o.

Wolfsburg claimed their first point of the campaign after comng from behind to salvage a 1-1 at home to Lille. Divock Origi continued his fine start to the season with the opening goal in the 77th minute when he converted a penalty but Lille missed the chance to secure a first win as Kevin De Bruyne struck an equaliser in the 83rd minute.

Napoli made it two wins in a row with a 2-0 win away to Slovan Bratislava with the Italians opening the scoring in the 35th minute with a strike from Marek Hamsik before the win was confirmed in the 74th minute as Gonzalo Higuain made it 2-0 to secure all three points.

Sparta Prague got off the mark with a 3-1 win over Young Boys with Vacha giving the Czechs a 27th minute lead which was instantly doubled a minute later by Lafata's strike. The Swiss side reduced the deficit in the 52nd minute with a Hoarau goal but the win was confirmed five minutes from the end with Lafata's second strike.

Aalborg got of the mark with a 1-0 win at home to Rio Ave with the winning goal coming in the 46th minute as Jensen struck while Dynamo Kyiv made it two wins in a row with a 3-1 win at home to Steaua Bucharest. Yarmolenko put the Ukrainians in front in the 40th minute before Kravets doubled the lead in the 66th minute to put the hosts in control. However, Steaua reduced the deficit in the 89th minute with a Rusescu goal which proved to be only a consolation as Teodorczyk secured all three points for the hosts in the final minute.

K
Fiorentina made it two wins in a row with a comfortable 3-0 win away to Dinamo Minsk with Alberto Aquilani putting the Italians in front in the 33rd minute before a quick double after the hour confirmed the win with Ilicic striking in the 61st minute ahead of a third goal from Bernardeschi in the 67th minute.

Guincamp got off the mark with a 2-0 win over PAOK Salonica with Newcastle loanee Sylvain Marveaux's brace in the 47th and 50th minutes proving to be enough to seal the win for the French side.


L
Lokeren got off the mark with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Metalist Kharkiv with the winning goal coming 16 minutes from the end with De Pauw's 74th minute strike. Legia Warsaw secured their second consecutive win with a narrow 1-0 win away to Trabzonspor with Kucharczyk putting them ahead in the 16th minute which proved to be enough to seal all three points despite the late dismissal of Zyro in the 88th minute.
