Holders Wigan Stun Man City

The FA Cup reached the last eight this week with a repeat of the 2013 final with Manchester City hoping to avenge last years final defeat with Sheffield United looking to be the first League One semi finalist sine the famous Wycombe side of 2001.

Saturday saw Arsenal face Everton with the vistors looking for a return to Wembley after their defeat to fierce rivals Liverpool two years ago but like their neighbours they exited the competition at the Emirates as Arsenal secured a 4-1 win. Ozil put the Gunners in front after only seven minutes but Lukaku levelled for the visitors in the 32nd minute, Arsenal regained the lead after they were awarded a penalty and Arteta converted against his former club in the 68th minute.

Everton pushed to level for a second time but were dealt two late blows as substitute Giroud struck in the 83rd and 85th minutes to end the visitors hopes and send his side through to the last four where they will meet the current holders, Wigan.

Sunday afternoon ended as Wigan defied the odds and kept up their hoes of retaining the trophy with a stunning 2-1 win against Man City, even more defying was that it was at the Etihad where City have been dominant all season.

Wigan took the lead after 27 minutes when Gomez converted a penalty past Pantilimon and led 1-0 at the meaning they were only 45 minutes away from a fourth trip to Wembley in the space of 12 months.
Their hopes rose further only two minutes into the second half when Perch put them 2-0 up and City needed a miracle to keep up their Quadruple hopes.

Nasri pulled it back to 2-1 in the 68th minute but Wigan held on for a famous victory and will be very confident of reaching a second successive final despite the obstacle being Arsenal.

Earlier in the day, Sheffield United extended their amazing run in the competition by claiming another scalp as they beat Championship side Charlton in a 2-0 victory. The hosts struck twice in as many minutes to become the first third tier side to reach the last four since Wycombe in 2001 who were defeated by eventual winners Liverpool. Flynn put them 1-0 up in the 65th minute and Brayford added a second in the 67th to create history not seen by Blades fans since their top flight days and their reward is a tie against Hull.

Sunderland's hopes of a second Wembley visit this season were dashed as they lost 3-0 away to Hull who reach the last four for the first time since 1930. The sides were level until the 68th minute thanks to Ustari saving a Hull penalty but Sunderland's failure to capitalise on that saw them go behind as Davies opened the scoring. Meyler made it two four minute later and celebrated in style with headbutt to the corner flag harking back to last weeks scuffle with Alan Pardew but Hull's Wembley visit was confirmed when Fryatt made it 3-0 with thirteen minutes to go and the draw against Sheffield United with give them confidence to reach the final.

Two strange thought come from this weekend, firstly that all four ties saw a 68th minute goal which is very strange but also the fact that Wigan and Hull were drawn away form each other means that they could repeat the final of last year's Rugby League Challenge Cup which  Wigan won 16-0 against Hull FC.
